Introduction

Ingredients

Red gram (kandi pappu, toor dal): 1 cup
Raw toor dal (kandi pappu)

Clarified butter (ghee, neyyi): 2 tbsp
A spoon of ghee

Salt: As per taste

Water: 1 and a half glass (375 ml approximately)

Procedure

Step 1: Cooking the Red Gram

Clean and wash the red gram thoroughly. Add 3 cups of water for 1 cup of red gram and cook it in a pressure cooker. Let it cook for up to 3 whistles on high flame and 2 minutes on low flame, adjusting based on the pressure cooker used.

Step 2: Mashing the Dal

After the pressure is released, mash the cooked dal with a spatula or a masher. Add salt and 2 tbsp of clarified butter (ghee) to it. Mix well until the dal is smooth and well-blended.

Step 3: Serving the Dal

Transfer the mashed dal into a serving bowl. Mudda Pappu is now ready to serve!
