Ulli Chekkalu - Onion Rice Crackers

Ingredients for 15 Pieces

Biyyam pindi (Rice Flour): 1/4 kg

Nanabettina Senagapappu (Soaked Red Gram, soaked for at least 60 minutes): 1 small cup

Procedure

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

Mix 1/4 kg rice flour with chopped onions, soaked red gram, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp salt, curry leaves, 1 tsp milk cream, and chopped green chillies. Gradually add water and knead the mixture until a smooth dough is formed. The dough should be slightly softer than chapati dough.

Step 2: Shape the Chekkalu

Take a portion of the dough and shape it into round and thick chekkalu. Lightly oil your hands and the working surface to prevent sticking.

Step 3: Fry the Chekkalu

Carefully place the shaped chekkalu into preheated oil and fry them on high flame. Ensure the oil is sufficiently hot to achieve a crispy texture.

Continue frying until the chekkalu turn a golden brown color, indicating they are perfectly cooked and crispy.
